We’re excited to announce the launch of Coffee & Talk, a new community project by Slavic Refugee and Immigrant Services Organization (SRISO) designed to bring people together through conversation, connection, and culture.
Coffee & Talk creates welcoming spaces where Ukrainian immigrants and refugees can meet with members of the local American community to practice conversational English in a relaxed, real-life setting. Instead of a classroom, we gather in neighborhood coffee shops — warm, friendly places that make conversation feel natural and comfortable.
Building Language Skills Through Real Conversations:
Learning a new language takes more than textbooks — it takes practice, confidence, and human connection. Coffee & Talk helps participants improve their English through informal, supportive conversations. These meetups allow newcomers to ask questions, learn everyday expressions, and feel more comfortable communicating in daily life.
At the same time, American participants have the opportunity to learn about Ukrainian culture, traditions, and experiences, creating meaningful cultural exchange and understanding.
Strengthening Community Connections:
This project is about more than language — it’s about belonging. By bringing people together regularly, Coffee & Talk helps build friendships, reduce isolation, and create a stronger, more connected community. Participants gain confidence navigating life in a new country while forming relationships that extend beyond the meetings.
Supporting Local Small Businesses;
Coffee & Talk also partners with local coffee shops and small businesses, hosting gatherings in community-centered spaces. These partnerships support neighborhood businesses while creating inviting environments where conversations can flourish.
Everyone Is Welcome:
Whether you’re looking to practice English, meet new people, share your culture, or simply enjoy good conversation over coffee, Coffee & Talk is open to you.
Together, we’re building bridges — one cup of coffee and one conversation at a time.
Stay tuned for upcoming meeting dates and locations!
